Shanne was one of the people interviewed in 2015 for a Dutch television series called ‘Je zal het maar hebben‘ (‘What if you have this?’)
In 2020, the show is on for 20 years and Shanne was one of the people coming back on the show for the special anniversary edition.
It is a program about chronic or rare diseases that people have. This Dutch tv show focuses on young people.
Meet Shanne
Back in 2015 and 2016, Shanne joined our team and was on the road many times, visiting hotels, stay the night and put a lot of energy and time in raising awareness during the Hotel Checks she conducted – and has helped create – for Accessible Travel Online.
Shanne joined the Vondelgames in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, a sports event in the capital city’s main park for wheelchair users. Shanne was born in 1992. Since a few years she is living together in Zaanstad, with her boyfriend Danny who she met online, on a dating site for disabled people. She uses a wheelchair, and she is visually and auditory impaired.
As Shanne puts it: “Besides that I have a lot more disabilities like my coordination issues and speech.”
The Hotel Inspectors
Shanne and Danny checked the hotel entrance, the room and discussed many things during a long summer day in the hotel in Amsterdam. Watch the video below (audio and subtitles in Dutch) to see the hotel and what happens if you use the emergency cord.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station has 28 accessible rooms and suites. A unique hotel in the Netherlands, as we do not know any other hotel having so many accessible rooms and suites.

When Shanne and Danny were conducting a Hotel Check at this famous hotel nearby Amsterdam Central Station, they talk about the importance of accessibility in hotels and hopes this television item will raise more awareness about travel, accommodation and people with disabilities.
“I think it’s important that a hotel is accessible for everybody and that everyone can live their lives as independently as far as possible. It’s nice to know which hotel is accessible and which not.”

The accessible hotel rooms have spacious bath rooms are fitted with a bathtub and separate roll-in shower, mist-free mirror, support rails, an adapted wash basin, an alarm system and luxury bathroom amenities. More information about the hotel you find here.

Shanne is aiming for a modeling career
“No I am not”, she says, laughing. She did do a fantastic job though at the beautiful tulip gardens in the Netherlands for a photo shoot a few years ago and more recently she was the star in front of the camera for the lightweight foldable ramp.
